Shri. Ellappan Murthy took over charge as Director General of Lighthouses and Lightships, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways on 28.02.2019. He has completed hisgraduation in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Madras University, and completed post-graduation in Management fromJamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai University. Prior to joining this Directorate in the year 1995, he worked in Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) as Communication Engineer. During his tenure at Mumbai Port Trust (Mb PT), he was involved for improvement of communication infrastructure at MbPT including island jetty by extending Microwave links. He has vast experience on various technology in the field of Aids to Marine Navigation and establishment of radar based vessel traffic system in Gandhidham. He played important role in development of lighthouse tourism.
The Director General ensures safe and efficient navigation in Indian waters and advise Government of India on various matters related to establishment and maintenance of Aids to Marine Navigation and Vessel Traffic Services along Indian Coast.
