Buoys are floating structures, moored to the bottom of the sea. Used to mark channels and fairways, shoals, rocks, wrecks and other dangers to navigation. Buoys have a distinctive colour and shape. They carry a top marks and exhibit light. They may also be fitted with radar reflector and sound bells.
IALA Buoyage System Region A is adopted in India. The Directorate has established and maintaining 10 Nos. Salaya channel Buoys in the Gulf of Kachchh and 11 Nos. Narmada channels Buoys & 1 Sultanpur Buoys in Gulf of Khambhat. Directorate is also marking the wrecks outside the port limits
